Rev. Roland Mitchell

Lead Pastor
About Me:

I currently serve as the Lead Pastor for HHUMC. Before that I was the pastor at the Sugar Grove United Methodist Church in Washington Court House Ohio from 2008-2013. During that time I finished my Seminary degree in a Master’s of Divinity from Ashland Theological Seminary. I also served in ministry at Richmond Dale UMC from 2005-2008, Crouse Chapel UMC from 2001-2005, Kingston UMC as the youth pastor/associate pastor from 2000-2001, and served as a youth pastor at Trinity UMC in Chillicothe, Ohio from 1994-2000. I graduated from Circleville Bible College (now Ohio Christian University) in 1995 with a degree in Theology. Charlene and I were married in September of 1996 and have served alongside of each other in ministry since that time. We have two beautiful children, Madelyn and Maddox. I love the Lord and want to faithfully serve Him and preach the gospel boldly. I want to see God bless our mission and ministry here at HHUMC in a mighty way so that we can be a church that will be around for a 100 years or more or until the Lord shall return.

Description of Job Title and Duties:

I am the Lead Pastor of HHUMC which involves being the chief visionary of the mission and ministry of the church. I am tasked to preach, teach, train the Leadership Board, and direct the staff of the church. I occasionally do share the basic duties of a shepherding pastor with funerals, visitations, and hospital calls but my main duty is to lead the church in living into it’s mission and vision.

Hobbies

I enjoy golfing, fishing, camping, watching Nascar Racing, playing Xbox (well trying to play Xbox but give me a joystick and Space Invaders and watch out), and working around the house.

Favorite Bible Verse:

“God has said never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. Se we say with confidence, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” – Hebrews 13:5-6

Pastor of Support Ministries
About Me:

I am currently a Licensed Local Pastor through the United Methodist Church. I am currently working my way through the Course of Study to complete my requirements for being a licensed local pastor. So, that means I’m a student for the next four years! Before going into the ministry, I worked for 20 years in private family practice of the medical field until being called to become a pastor. But I’ve served in some capacity of ministry for about 22 years.

I am also the wife of Pastor Roland and the mother of two children, Madelyn and Maddox. My passion is for folks to come to know Jesus. I love people and I am humbled to be able to walk alongside them through our journey in life.

Description of Job Title and Duties:

The Pastor of Support Ministries primarily is a compassion and communication position within the life of HHUMC. I work alongside of our visitation pastor to make hospital and shut in visitations and we also work together to encourage and work with our prayer teams and care teams. I am humbled to be called to preach, teach, serve communion, weddings and funerals.

I work alongside of our church office staff to ensure we have custodial and secretarial needs met. I am also tasked to touch base with our many ministries in the life of HHUMC.

Hobbies

When I have time, I like to do some crafting. I love rearranging furniture and decorating. I enjoy camping and travel. I really enjoy being with my family and my extended family doing all kinds of different activities.

Favorite Bible Verse:

“Better to be patient than powerful; better to have self control than to conquer a city.” – Proverbs 16:32

Secretary
About Me:

I’m a happily married cat mom of two ornery felines, Tuxeda Lorraine and Licorice Louise. I love Jesus and am ever grateful for the wonderful Christian foundation my parents taught and modeled. I love coffee (extra bold, dark roast), yarn, books (print and e-books) and PopTarts (just the fruit ones).  Pink is my absolutely, positively favorite color, and if that pink is sprinkled with glitter then I am smitten.

Description of Job Title and Duties:

Whether you call, stop by, or communicate with the church office via e-mail — I’m the one you’ll connect with first. I love being on the “front-lines” of our church’s ministry. I also put the Sunday bulletins together, do a portion of the projection slides we use each week at worship, and many other and varied administrative, behind-the-scenes duties that are necessary to keep ministry moving forward.

Hobbies

I am a “capital K” Knitter and am rarely seen without some yarny goodness nearby (you’ll often catch me knitting in my car during the lunch hour). I love reading, and am especially fond of biographies of American historical figures and books on church history. I also have long-held aspirations of being the “next great American author” and dabble a bit in writing fiction. Wordsmithing makes me very happy.

Favorite Bible Verse:

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” – 1 John 3:1

TJ Grembowski

Worship Arts Director
About Me:

My name is TJ Grembowski and I am the Worship Arts Director for Hocking Hills UMC. I spend my time with my best friend and snacking buddy, Benjamin.

I started playing music around 4th grade when I first learned the violin. From there I began to learn music theory and was enrolled in middle school band on the trumpet. With my knowledge of theory and trumpet I began to teach myself a myriad of other instruments. My main instrument is Trumpet, but I also play guitar (acoustic, electric, bass, classical, 12-string), banjo, ukulele, piano, keyboard/synth, drums, cajon, general percussion, harmonica, didgeridoo, shofar, and I sing.

After High School I joined The U.S. Army as a musician and served for 6 years while I was in college. While serving in the Army I attended Ohio University and received an Associate’s in Electronic Media and a Bachelor’s in Music Production with a Minor in Music. Aside from audio, the rest of my multimedia specialties are self-taught.

Description of Job Title and Duties:

I am the Worship Arts Director and Multimedia Specialist for Hocking Hills United Methodist Church. I lead the Praise Band “Warship”, The Multimedia Team, and occasionally teach our Spark Youth Group. I plan our 11:00am service, “The Harbor”, and do much in the ways of music relating to that service. I also work with a team that creates all of the media for the church (photo, video, design, web, music, etc.) You can find me any Sunday on stage praising the Lord (most likely without shoes on)!

Hobbies

As a hobby I run a Youtube channel dedicated to music, ministry, and DIY projects. I love board games (and have many)! I also love spending time with friends and family at any opportunity that I get.

Favorite Bible Verse:

“And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” – Colossians 3:17

Favorite Bible Verse:

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;

let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the Lord is a great God,
and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.

Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!
For he is our God,
and we are the people of his pasture,
and the sheep of his hand.
Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah,
as on the day at Massah in the wilderness,
when your fathers put me to the test
and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work.
10 For forty years I loathed that generation
and said, “They are a people who go astray in their heart,
and they have not known my ways.”
11 Therefore I swore in my wrath,
“They shall not enter my rest.”

Suellen Rieder

Suellen Rieder

Accompianist | Pianist
About Me:

I was born to the late Harold and Mabel Hoffman and raised in Logan. – Oh with sisters Saundra, Linda and Pamela. I Graduated LHS in 1975and married Steve Rieder and have four grown children: Troy, Chuckie, Ryan and Stefanie; five grandchildren-Nick,Taylor, Baileigh, Nora and Naya. I own and manage local Sears Hometown in Logan. When the church merger was in planning stages, five churches, Immanuel, Trinity, Kline, Union and Pleasant Hill, were set to become one. Even though Kline, where I had attended and played for since elementary days, had voted not to merge, several of us had not changed our minds. Actually, I thought I would be a pew-sitter for the first time ever…God had a good chuckle on that one! Seriously, it is humbling to have the opportunity to play with the level of talent that is here at HHUMC and I pray that the music I play will inspire and fill the hearts of everyone listening.

Description of Job Title and Duties:

I am responsible for music in the Journey service, whether solo or accompanist for Worship Singers and Praise Ensemble. Also I am a member of WARSHIP Praise Band in the Harbor service (though not a duty-just a passion) 🙂

Hobbies

I am working full-time, but love spending time with my grandchildren, and of course church activities keep me hopping. I still enjoy playing piano for my own personal enjoyment, summertime gardening, and travel when there is opportunity.

Favorite Bible Verse:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

The Journey – Traditional – (9:00 am):

We are all on a journey.  It started at birth and continues for the rest of our lives.  Along this journey we are hopeful to experience opportunities for growth.  Worship is a vital part of our journey and opportunity to grow.  Worship is an important part of the journey in the Christian life here at Hocking Hills United Methodist Church.  At the Journey, God is praised through a variety of Christian songs including traditional hymns.  We also share a Bible based message; a time of prayer; and God’s love, comfort, and grace are made new through the Holy Spirit.  In our traditional service you will also experience worship singers, praise ensemble, and bell choir.  Participants are charged to go forth and live as Disciples of Christ.

The Harbor – Contemporary – (11:00 am):

Often times we mistake church on Sundays to be a little bit of time spent with God. In all actuality, church on Sundays is meant to be a place where followers of Jesus Christ can come together and worship, pray, serve, learn, and give together in fellowship with one another. It’s not a garrison we retreat to, but a harbor where we resupply, rest, and prepare ourselves for our next journey. At “The Harbor”, worship looks a little different than you may be used to. There is a praise band that leads us in passionate worship. That transitions into a message from one of our pastors that you can apply to your life today; all of which is saturated in prayer. Worship freely, learn deeply, and pray with expectation.

our beliefs

our values

God

We believe in one almighty loving God, who has existed for all eternity in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God, who became fully man born through the Virgin Mary. We believe Jesus lived a sinless life and died for the sins of all, taking on Himself the punishment we deserve. We believe Jesus rose from the dead conquering sin and death.

Holy Spirit

We believe the Holy Spirit is living and active in the world. We believe the Holy Spirit convicts of sin, reveals God’s truth and power, and works to transform the lives of those who choose to follow Christ.

Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is our primary authority. It contains all truth necessary for faith and life.

Humanity

We believe human beings were created good and in the image of God, but sin and disobedience has broken human nature. We stand on our own from a perfect God and there is nothing we can do to restore the brokenness that sin has caused. But all can respond to God’s love and be restored in relationship with God as a gift of His grace.

Church

We believe the church is made up of all of those who believe in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The church is called to be the salt and light of the earth through the ongoing representation of God’s presence in the world where people experience the reality of God through His people.

Love

We love one another as Jesus loves us. Love means helping someone become the best they can be no matter what the cost. Without Love, all is lost.

Authenticity

We strive to meet real needs of real people through honest words and actions. We speak what is true out of our love for one another.

Forgiveness

We forgive others the way Jesus forgave us, with His complete  grace. We do not let mistakes hinder us from moving forward together.

Safety

We follow safe sanctuary best practices to provide a safe environment. We welcome everyone in security, respect, worthiness, and well being.

Hope

We bring hope to our community as Christian believers through Christ. Our hope is confidence in God’s ability to bring about the fruit of our labor.

Growth

We affirm and build one another up by recognizing the many gifts that each of us have. We create a welcoming environment to grow in size and purpose as the body of Christian followers. We engage in service and missions to advance the kingdom of God.
